Dashboard

Dashboard is the first page you land on after signing in, and it is the first item in the sidebar. What it shows you is not one fixed screen: it is built around your own firm role, so an Owner, a Manager, a Lead (Supervisor), and a Staff member all land on a genuinely different page, each scoped to what that role is responsible for. This page walks through each version.

At the top of every version, a small line names your active firm, then "Welcome back, [your first name]." Underneath that, a caption reads "[role] view," using whatever your firm calls that role if it has renamed it (by default: Owner, General Manager, Manager, Lead (Supervisor), or Staff). If you are not a member of any firm at all, Dashboard says so plainly instead of showing anything.

A "Help guide" button next to the welcome message opens this page from wherever you already are.

Owner and General Manager

Owner and General Manager see the same view: the whole firm, not a department.

Rejected e-files. If any filed return has come back from a tax authority rejected and not yet resubmitted, a red banner lists them at the very top, above everything else. It only appears when there is at least one; otherwise it is not there at all. Managers see this same banner too, firm-wide, in their own view below.

Setup checklist, then milestones. A brand-new firm sees a dismissible "Set up your firm" checklist (contact details, branding, departments, delivery locations, return routing, a department head, and checklist templates: seven steps, explained in Getting started). Once every step is done or the checklist is dismissed, a second card takes its place: "Getting your firm started," which tracks six workflow milestones (inviting your first staff member, adding your first client, creating your first return, assigning a questionnaire, moving a return forward, and completing your first return). The two never show at the same time, so you are never looking at two lists doing the same job. If a full week has passed since the firm was created with no return made yet, a banner says so and links back to the setup guide (this check only looks at the firm's age and whether a return exists, not at whether setup is finished). And the moment setup is fully done with no return created yet, a short pop-up wizard offers to walk you through creating your very first one.

Four stat tiles: Total Open Requests, Total Open Returns, Total Active Tasks, and Overdue Items (shown in red once there is at least one).

Tasks. Overdue, Due This Week, and this month's Completion Rate, firm-wide.

Escalated items. Anything escalated up to you, firm-wide, since Owners and General Managers are the top of the escalation chain (see Role structure).

Ready to file. How many Filed/Ready for Filing returns are ready to move on, and the first few of them. Only Leads (Supervisors) and above see this card at all (matching Returns: only a Lead (Supervisor) or above can move a return into Filed or Completed).

Staff capacity forecast. Each staffer's near-term open-work load against their own cap. This panel, and the "Staff workload" table further down, only appear once the firm has at least three active staff members. Below that, the badges ("idle," "heavy," "over capacity") would be judged against an average that is mostly the person being judged, so they would not mean anything yet.

Open requests by department. A chart grouping open requests by department. Since the chart can only group by department, an open request with no department yet does not appear as a bar, but the panel says so honestly ("N open requests, none assigned to a department yet") rather than claiming there are no open requests when the stat tile above it says otherwise.

Department performance. A table of open count, completions this month, and average resolution time, one row per department. This whole block is hidden for a firm with zero departments (rather than show one department literally named "-" standing in for the entire firm), and shows "No completed work this period" instead of an empty table when the firm has departments but nothing finished yet this month.

Staff workload. Every active staff member, their departments, open count, and completions this month, with "idle" and "heavy" badges. Deactivated staff never appear here. Hidden below three active staff, for the same reason as the capacity forecast above.

Firm activity feed. The most recent events across the firm (up to 50).

Overdue client tasks. A flat list of client-facing tasks past their due date, one row per task showing the client's name and the task title, soonest due date first, capped at the 20 most overdue.

Recent activity and Returns by status. Side by side at the bottom: the ten most recently updated returns/requests, and a bar breakdown of every return's current pipeline stage for the newest tax year the firm has a return for (the panel names which year, since only one year counts at a time).

Manager

A Manager's Dashboard is split between their own personal work and the department(s) they manage.

If you have not been added to any department yet, a banner at the top says so and names who can add you (whichever roles can add staff to a department at your firm; see Role structure), and every department-specific panel below says "No departments yet." instead of a wrong zero.

If you manage more than one department, a dropdown lets you pick "All my departments" or a single one; every panel below reflects that choice.

Rejected e-files. The same firm-wide red banner described in the Owner/General Manager section above appears here too, at the very top, not scoped to your own department.

My Department. An interactive block (not shown if you have no department): an "Unassigned" list for the department with an Assign button on each row, and a "Department workload" card per team member showing their active queue and a colored load indicator.

Escalated items and Ready to file, scoped the same way as the owner's versions above, and the Staff capacity forecast, shown to Managers as well as Owners/GMs.

Below that, two columns:

  • My work (left): three compact stat tiles (Open Requests, Open Returns, Active tasks) for work assigned to you personally, and "My top 3 queue," your own three highest-priority open items.
  • My departments / Department (right): three stat tiles for the department(s) you have selected; an "Unassigned" panel listing up to six unassigned tickets with an "Assign me" button on each; "Work distribution," a bar per department member showing their open count; and "Most overdue," the five most overdue items (returns, requests, or tasks) across the selected department(s).

Lead (Supervisor)

A Lead (Supervisor)'s Dashboard is a condensed personal summary plus oversight of their own department(s), with no cross-department merging, so numbers for one department never bleed into another's.

If you have not been added to any department, the same banner and per-panel "No departments yet." treatment as the Manager view applies.

My work. Three compact stat tiles: your own Open Requests, Open Returns, and Active tasks.

Escalated items (routed to you as a Lead (Supervisor)) and Ready to file, the same cards described above.

Per-department oversight, one section per department you belong to, each with an "Open Queue Management" button and three panels:

  • Unassigned, just a count of tickets waiting to be routed in that department, not a list.
  • Team workload, names and open counts for everyone in the department. Hidden if you are the only person in the department, since there is nobody else to compare against.
  • Most overdue (top 5), the five most overdue returns, requests, or tasks in that department.

Staff

A Staff member's Dashboard is entirely about their own work and their department(s), with no oversight actions (no assign, no reassign, no Queue Management link).

If you have not been added to a department, the same banner applies as above.

Three stat tiles: My Open Requests, My Open Returns, My active tasks.

This week. A positive-framed line: either "No items completed yet this week, there's still time" or a count of what you have completed.

Due today / Overdue. Two panels side by side.

Your department(s), read-only. One section per department, each with three stat tiles (Dept Open Requests, Dept Open Returns, Dept Active Tasks), an "Unassigned" count for that department, and a "Team workload" list of names and open counts (hidden if you are the only person in the department). There is no "Most overdue" panel and no Queue Management link in the Staff view; that oversight stays with Leads (Supervisors) and above.

Recent activity. Your own notifications, not the firm's, up to five, with a "View all" link to Notifications.

A "View my full queue" button at the bottom links to the full Queue page for the detailed work list.

Why a panel is sometimes missing or says "Loading..."

Several of the panels above intentionally show nothing, or an honest sentence instead of a number, rather than guess:

  • A panel still fetching its data says "Loading…," never a confident zero.
  • A panel whose fetch failed says it could not load and offers a Retry button, rather than falling back to an empty-looking state that reads as "there is nothing here."
  • Blocks that compare people against each other (Staff workload, Staff capacity forecast) need at least three active staff firm-wide, and a department's Team workload panel needs at least two people in that department, before the comparison means anything. Below that, the block simply does not render.
  • Department-level blocks (Department performance, a department's stat tiles) are hidden or relabeled for a firm with no departments yet, rather than show a fake department or three zeros nobody measured.

If something you expect still looks wrong once your firm has real departments and a handful of staff, check Troubleshooting.
