E-signatures

Tax Return E-Signature Software (Form 8879)

Send engagement letters and 8879s for signature with a secure link. Clients sign without creating an account — you get a clear audit trail and automatic reminders.

E-sign engagement letters and 8879s

Engagement letters are drafted automatically when a return is created, and Form 8879 (or any other document your firm needs signed) can be sent for signature directly from the return. Both live on the same record as the rest of the client's work — no separate e-signature tool to log into.

Audit trail and reminders

Every signature request tracks its own status — pending, signed, expired, or revoked — along with when it was sent and when it was signed. Staff can see at a glance which returns are waiting on a signature instead of digging through email, and pending requests get followed up on automatically.

How signing works — no client login friction

Clients sign through a secure, unique link sent to their email — they don't need to remember a password or set up a portal account to sign a single document. Open the link, review, sign, done. The signed document is stored back on the client's record automatically.

§7216 consent, handled correctly

Using or disclosing a client's tax return information requires separate, affirmative consent under IRC §7216 — it can't be bundled into a single checkbox. Journey's client portal collects two distinct consents (disclosure and use) as separate signed screens, each requiring the client to affirmatively type their name rather than click a pre-checked box, and stores every acceptance in an append-only record. A version bump forces re-acceptance, so your consent trail stays current.
