Billing
The word "billing" means two different things in Journey, and keeping them straight saves a lot of confusion. One is what your firm pays Journey: your subscription. The other is what your clients pay your firm: your own invoicing. They're separate systems that happen to share a name.
Your firm's Journey subscription
Journey is subscription software, and its plans differ by staff-seat count and price rather than by features. Every plan includes the whole product, so you never lose a capability by being on a smaller plan. The one thing that does scale with the plan is the monthly AI credit allowance, covered below.
| Plan | Price / mo | Seats |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $199 | up to 5 |
| Professional | $649 | up to 15 |
| Business | $1,149 | up to 30 |
| Enterprise | Custom | Unlimited |
A few details fill in around the plans. You can bill monthly or yearly, with the yearly price working out to ten months for twelve. Every plan comes with a 30-day trial and a 60-day money-back window. If your active staff ever exceed your plan's seat cap, the extra seats are billed at $45 each per month rather than blocking you from adding a teammate, so growth is never gated on an upgrade. Staff you mark as seasonal bill at $30 per month instead of $45 for their over-cap seats, during tax season (January 1 through April 30) on monthly plans. Payment is by card through Stripe.
The one charge beyond your plan price is AI credits. Every plan includes a monthly allowance that scales with the plan, and if your firm uses it up you can buy a top-up pack. Your current balance, the rate card and the packs are all on your billing page.
Two promotions may apply. The Founders Program gives new subscriptions started before January 1, 2027 half off their first six months, after which they renew at full price automatically. And firms switching from another practice-management platform can get 25% off their first year on an annual plan with proof of their prior subscription. The two don't stack; the single more valuable discount applies. Either discount reduces the plan price rather than the extra-seat rate, so seats beyond your cap bill at $45 whichever promotion you're on.
Your billed seat count is kept in sync automatically as staff are added or removed, so what you pay tracks who's actually on the team. See scheduled jobs.
Billing your own clients
Your firm can also invoice its own clients through Journey, powered by Stripe Connect so the funds go to your firm rather than through Journey. A return can carry a balance due, and clients can pay it from their portal. Your firm is the seller on those payments, so Stripe's card fees and any chargebacks are your firm's; Journey adds no fee. See Card fees and chargebacks.
Getting paid is helped along by automation. Payment reminders chase unpaid invoices on a schedule you control, and escalate ones that stay unpaid to owners and general managers as an in-app alert, so you're not the one re-sending the same reminder every few days. See scheduled jobs. Before you can collect from clients, you'll connect your firm's own Stripe account in billing settings.
