SMS Opt-In Consent Screen

Effective Date: September 24, 2026

This page shows how a client of a firm using Journey gives consent to receive text messages. It is published here so that the consent screen can be reviewed directly, without an account and without a file-sharing link.

Who sends the messages

Journey is a client communication platform operated by Journey Tax Inc. Text messages are sent on behalf of the client's own tax firm, and both names appear together in the consent language the client accepts. Messages about a client's own return and documents are sent in the firm's name. Journey Tax Inc. is the registrant of the number the messages are sent from.

Where the consent is collected

A client sees this screen in their firm's client portal, as part of reviewing and accepting the firm's engagement documents. The text message checkbox sits below those documents and is separate from them.

The consent screen

The screenshot below was captured in Summit Ridge Tax & Advisory, the demonstration firm Journey Tax Inc. operates for training and testing. It is not an outside customer. The screen is the same one every firm's clients see. Only the firm name changes.

The text message checkbox is unchecked. Nothing on this screen pre-selects it. Open the screenshot at full size.

The exact consent language

Text message notifications (optional). I agree to receive text messages from Summit Ridge Tax & Advisory, sent through Journey (a service of Journey Tax Inc.), about my tax return status, document requests, and account notifications. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to unsubscribe or HELP for help. See journey.tax/legal/sms and journey.tax/legal/privacy.

How the checkbox behaves

  • It is unchecked by default. Nothing in the product pre-selects it, and a client who does nothing is not opted in.
  • It is optional. Leaving it unchecked does not stop a client from continuing, accepting the firm's documents, or using any part of the portal.
  • Consent is not a condition of service. No feature, price or engagement depends on it.
  • It can be reversed at any time. The consent language tells the client to reply STOP to any message to unsubscribe. In the client portal, the SMS section shows whether they are opted in and which mobile number is on file, and directs them to their firm to change it.

What clients receive

Service and transactional notifications only: tax return status updates, document and information requests, appointment and deadline reminders, and account notifications. No marketing or promotional messages are sent through this program.
